A Sustainable Conference

Thousands of young people across the country are making global warming a priority in their communities by campaigning for local clean energy projects by influencing national and regional policy.

As part of our generation’s efforts to meet this challenge, Campus Progress implemented a green conference plan with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of this event. We are encouraging all of the individuals, companies, and sponsors associated with our conference to join us in implementing this plan by supporting our efforts to reduce waste and promote sustainable solutions.

Some steps we are taking this year include:
  • Promotional materials produced by 100% wind power and vegetable-based inks on post-consumer recycled paper

  • Providing conference totebags made from 100% certified recycled plastic bottles

  • Reducing the amount of printed materials by utilizing virtual invitations, promotions, registrations, and other conference communications for attendees and speakers

  • Employing a comprehensive recycling system at the conference venue

  • Reusing signage from previous conference years

  • Requesting china service and reusable dishware and/or biodegradable disposable items from our caterer
  • Encouraging conference speakers to distribute handouts electronically rather than in hard copy

Some simple steps you can take every day:

  • Choose organic produce when you can

  • Use non-toxic personal care products and natural household cleaning products

  • Buy unbleached and recycled household products such as paper towels, toilet paper and coffee filters

  • Put your computer and monitor in sleep mode when they aren’t in use

  • Plug electronic appliances into power strips so that they can be switched off at night or when not in use

  • Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps
  • Commute to work and run errands by walking, biking, or taking public transportation
  • If you own a motor vehicle, inflate your tires once a month or as necessary
