At University of Vermont, No Admission for Bottled Water. This year, the University of Vermont (UVM) enacted a policy that works to make the university a more environmentally-friendly campus. A policy that took effect in January prohibits bottled water from being purchased or served at the university. As the first public university in New England to enact a bottled water ban, UVM is taking steps to ensure that the policy does not restrict students’ access to water. For example, on campus, there are over 200 drinking fountains, with water that comes directly from Lake Champlain. Yet, when first implemented, the policy met resistance from some students who worried that UVM had gone too far in limiting their freedom of choice. [The Boston Globe]

He is president and founder of “Condam,” which McCabe describes as an “emergency contraceptive delivery service. Students can order condoms online at Condam.net, where there is a variety of types of condoms available for sale. McCabe usually delivers the condoms with a blinking blue siren on his head; yet, for those who are worried about discretion, he offers the “Discrete Delivery” option for customers. Woman Sues College After She Allegedly Was Fired for Becoming Pregnant Outside of Marriage. Teri James, previously a financial aid specialist at San Diego Christian College, sued her former workplace on grounds of discrimination. James said she was fired after the college learned that she was pregnant and unmarried. Gloria Allred, her attorney, argued that this action violates the Fair Employment and Housing Act under California law—as there is no way for an employer to tell if a man is engaging in pre-marital sex. The attorney said she hoped that this lawsuit might discourage future cases of gender discrimination across the state. [CBS Local-Los Angeles]
