First Student Board Reflects Talent, Diversity

WASHINGTON, DC – Campus Progress- the youth-outreach division launched by the Washington, D.C. based Center for American Progress – is pleased to announce the members of its 2005-2006 Student Advisory Board. The 21 members were chosen from over 100 well-qualified applicants for their dedication and contributions to progressive advocacy, activism, and journalism. This year’s selections represent a wide variety of schools, ranging from small liberal arts schools such as Middlebury, to large state schools such as the University of Kentucky.

The Advisory Board illustrates just one of Campus Progress’s continued efforts to build a strong, effective network of college progressives. Throughout the next year, Advisory Board members will participate in a variety of events, such as hosting events and organizing issue campaigns, all while contributing their time and ideas to Campus Progress. In addition to the twenty-one member board, Campus Progress has selected 40 student representatives to advance the work of Campus Progress at schools across the country, from Brown University to University of Arkansas to the University of Nebraska – Omaha.

“In the past eight months, Campus Progress has grown from an idea into a major player in the effort to turn the tide in this country and start winning the battle of ideas on campus,” said David Halperin, Director of Campus Progress. “But we still have a lot of work to do. Our Campus Progress Advisory Board and network of student representatives will play a critical role in our work to shape the agenda and strategy for Campus Progress and to spread the message and advance our work with young people all over America.”
