Protesting Prop 8 In Portland
This weekend, thousands gathered in more than 300 cities nationwide to protest the passage of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, people across the country protested the passage of Proposition 8 in California, a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage after it had been legal since May. In Portland, OR, hundreds gathered near the Portland State University campus to show their support for marriage equality and voice their concerns about how support for the proposition was funded. Protesters were also paid a surprise visit by Mayor-elect Sam Adams. The mayor-elect, who will be the first openly-gay mayor in Portland’s history, rallied the crowd and led a chant of “Yes we can!”
