Top Senators on Twitter

  • Top Senators on Twitter

Head of the Tweet class.

While pulling together information on Tweeting Senators for our Raising Pell Action Alert, Campus Progress came across some fun facts. While conservatives sometimes face criticism for their adoption of technology (or lack there of), when it comes to Senators at least, they are far more likely to be on Twitter.

The most popular tweeters, like Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), seem to be the ones who do the tweeting themselves—and probably give their press secretaries nightmares in the process. Of those Senators not on Twitter, about half have fake Twitter accounts created by outsiders.

More fun facts: Sen. Kay Hagan (D- NC) is the newest and therefore least popular. Senators Jim Bunning (R-KY) and David Vitter (R-LA) have never updated. Sen. Clarence Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) hasn’t tweeted since he was re-elected last year.
