A Word About Gender-Nuetral Bathrooms
There are transgender and otherwise gender non-conforming people that attend the Campus Progress National Conference every year. Gender non-conforming people are those who do not adhere to society’s rules about dress and activity for people of their assigned sex.
Often transgender and gender non-conforming individuals do not feel safe in either men’s or women’s restrooms. Many are harassed in both restrooms because they are perceived to be insufficiently feminine or masculine. For this reason, Campus Progress has designated two easily accessible gender-neutral restrooms at the Omni Shoreham Hotel for use by any attendee who desires increased privacy.
Offering gender neutral restrooms is one way we can mitigate discomfort or harassment for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. These restrooms also assist people with disabilities who need the assistance of an opposite-sex attendant and are also helpful for people with children.
Regardless of what bathroom you use, please let everyone pee in peace. Each of us can decide for ourselves which bathroom to use. Thank you for your help and have a great conference!
