Muadi Mukenge
Muadi Mukenge is the Senior Program Officer for Africa at the Global Fund for Women, a grantmaking foundation supporting women’s human rights organizations around the world working to address issues such as gaining economic independence, increasing girls’ education and stopping violence against women. Since 1987, the Global Fund has awarded over $56 million to more than 3,300 groups in 165 countries. The Global Fund also works in conflict and post-conflict regions such as Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Northern Uganda, supporting internally displaced persons, women’s participation in peace-building, and advocacy against mass atrocities. Mukenge previously worked as Program Officer for Africa at the Pacific Institute for Women’s Health, and the JSC African Studies Center at UCLA. She is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in late January 2007, traveled to Uvira, in eastern DRC to meet 50 women activists that have been funded by the Global Fund for Women.
