Caroline B. Schaffer, DVM
Caroline B. Schaffer, DVM is an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences and founding director of the Center for the Study of Human-Animal Interdependent Relationships in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL.
She co-authored an educational brochure in 1994 titled “HIV/AIDS and Pet Ownership” that she distributed to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, physicians and other human health care providers, public health workers, AIDS support groups, dog and cat breeders, and people living with HIV.
She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at The Ohio State University in 1971. After 12 years in small animal practice in Columbus, OH, and Hinsdale, IL, she worked as a research associate at Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to Tuskegee, AL, in 1987 where she has spent 18 of her last 21 years in human-animal bond and animal behavior activities.
