Angela Peacock

Angela M. Peacock joined the United States Army in
November 1997 and was medically retired as a Sergeant, in July
2006. She served total active duty time of 6 years 9 months.

She was sexually assaulted by a fellow service member in March 2001 while stationed in South Korea.

She then deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in May 2003 with 1st
Armored Division for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Task Force
Baghdad.

After 6 months of combat duty she was medevac’d from the
forward and received medical treatment at Landstuhl Regional
Medical Center and was required to change station to Ft. Lewis,
Washington. She was then medically retired for Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder which she successfully completed therapy for in November 2006.

She is currently rated 70% Service Connected Disability through
the Department of Veteran Affairs. She continues in ongoing
therapy, treatment for PTSD, and advocates for Combat Veterans
and Women Veterans who will soon face what she has after the
troops come home from multiple deployments.

She first shared her story with Brave New Foundation in the online
series In Their Boots. She has been featured in KCET’s SoCal
Connected and NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. She has
spoken publicly about the issues veterans face at UCLA and
George Washington University.
