The program will focus on giving students the skills and knowledge they need to create the change that will turn passion for the environment into action that will protect it.

Spoken Word: Protest through Poetry

This passionate medium offers artists a new way to convey social commentary and reach diverse audiences. Join Campus Progress as we spotlight some of America’s most dynamic and fearless voices on the spoken word scene. There will be performances by: Droopy Anderson, host of Mocha Hut’s Open Mic Poetry in Washington, DC; Def poet Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based, Chinese Taiwanese American spoken word artist; The 5th L, Baltimore-based spoken-word poetry meets hip-hop soul group; Paul Flores and Julio Cardenas performing pieces from their spoken word play REPRESENTA!, a bilingual play that discussed immigration and contemporary Cuban culture; and Laura Perez, up and coming Washington, DC emcee. Following the performances there will be a brief Q & A with the artists.
