The National Center for Lesbian Rights is a national legal organization committed to advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education. The communications associate supports the communications director with all tasks relating to the NCLR communications department, including working with the media and responding to inquiries; disseminating information through all web outlets; writing and disseminating press materials, drafting and editing print newsletters, brochures, web copy, e-newsletters, and action alerts, etc. The associate is responsible for daily maintenance of NCLR’s website and social network presence, posting new content regularly. Organizing Fellowship with USActionPost Date: June 18, 2009
USAction Education Fund (USAEF), a national leader in increasing civic and voter participation among traditionally under-represented constituencies, is seeking applicants for a progressive Organizing Fellowship, paying $10,000 for 20 weeks of full-time work, July 20th – December 4th, 2009. Eight USAEF Fellows will take part in a 4-day training and orientation. They will learn how organizers choose issues; develop strategy; asses their own organizational power and that of their targets, allies, and opponents; recruit constituents and move into action. Fellows will then work with USAEF state affiliates in designated states across the country. Fellows will work as part of the USAEF campaign to frame the public debate about our national budget and economic security in under-represented communities, helping develop the longer-term conversation about the need to invest in America’s future. This will involve community outreach and other organizing tasks, focused in communities of color and other traditionally under-represented constituencies. Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (SYRF) educates, organizes and empowers youth and young adults (ages 16-30) to put their faith into action and advocate for pro-choice social justice. SYRF is a program of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. The Program Coordinator works with the SYRF Program Director to educate, organize, and empower young people in the religious, pro-choice movement. She/he will be involved in all aspects of youth and young adult outreach. The Program Coordinator will cultivate relationships with youth interested in the SYRF program, develop resources used to train youth activists, represent the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) and SYRF at events and conferences around the country, update the SYRF website and assist with the development of a new SYRF online community. We believe that women should be trusted to make private medical decisions in consultation with their health care providers. NAF currently offers quality training and services to abortion providers and unbiased information and referral services to women. We are seeking Hotline Operators to answer the national toll-free Hotline. They are trained to provide callers with unbiased, factual information about pregnancy and abortion. The Hotline Operators also offer: confidential and non-judgmental support, referrals to providers in the caller’s area, referrals to funding sources, aid in understanding the complex maze of state abortion restrictions, and case management for women in difficult situations.
