Tell Congress to Protect Credit Cardholders!

With the rising costs of college, gasoline, food, health care, and other expenses, credit cards are becoming the “safety net” for an entire generation. Unfortunately, credit card companies are using unfair and even predatory practices to increase their profits at the expense of the financially vulnerable or inexperienced. Luckily, the House Financial Services Committee has recently passed the Credit Cardholder’s Bill of Rights, which will create several important protections for borrowers. We need your help to make sure that this issue is considered on the House floor before the end of this legislative cycle. Take Action Now!

Send the Next President to Poland for Climate

Send an invitation to your presidential hopeful to remind him about the climate crisis! A coalition of over 100 environment action groups coordinated by 350.org joined together to demand pledges from presidential candidates to attend the U.N. Climate Meetings in Poland scheduled for early December. The invitation also includes a list of endorsements of measures needed to be taken to reduce atmospheric CO2 below safe levels. The movement comes in response to the recent report that recorded record levels of CO2 output that was overshadowed by the economic crisis. Remind your presidential candidate about this real problem that threatens us all! Click here to send the pledge and learn more about 350.org.

Tell state officials: "Protect my right to vote!"

Sign the petition right now urging your secretary of state to fight burdensome requirements for voters to produce specific, government-issued IDs in order to vote. Although some claim that these requirements are necessary to prevent voter fraud, very few cases of fraud have ever been documented. What is clear is that voter ID laws disenfranchise students, the elderly, low-income, and others who are less likely to have the required form of identification. Your secretary of state can help stop legislative attacks on voting rights. Take action now!

Protect Academic Freedom

There is a right-wing movement that has introduced legislation in thirty states that would curtail the exchange of ideas between faculty and students. These groups believe that ideas like feminism and fields like peace studies are too controversial for “impressionable” college students. Join Campus Progress as we work with the Free Exchange on Campus coalition to protect the critical dialogue between and among students and faculty that makes higher education what it is. You can help by signing up as a Free Exchange supporter, or by organizing an event on your campus.

Sign the Youth Climate Pledge!

With Power Vote, a non-partisan campaign spearheaded by Energy Action Coalition, we will build a youth voting block 1 million strong to elevate the issue of climate change, hold our elected representatives accountable, and we work together on our campuses and in our communities to usher in a clean and just energy revolution. Check it out here.
