He was the only President that got a Ph.D, said the introducer, and thus we have a center for scholars named after him. They also have really good food. Today I attended a lecture titled “Drug Resistant TB in Russia,” at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and along with getting stuffed on really good food I learned a thing or two.
Ravenous from an afternoon absent of snacking (although I did manage to get a delicious dark chocolate covered almond from Sonal--Jim did too) I thoroughly enjoyed the CP BBQ tonight.
Upon arrival, I sucked down a beer like it was the water of life and munched on chips and salsa. After that I scarfed down watermelon like I was David Halperin.
I then proceeded to eat two turkey burgers that were incredibly juicy and also got some salad (had to get in all the free food groups). On my way out the door (I had to leave early to let the dog out) I took more watermelon for the road.
But I decided that the BBQ wasn't enough and attempted to stop by a local Panera on my way home to see if I was in time to get the baked goods they would throw out at the end of the day anyways. Alas, I was too late and they wouldn't open the door to talk to me, or give me free carbohydrates.
I did the best I could today. In fact, I liked eating free so much that tomorrow I'm eating lunch and dinner at events as well. Tuesday's contestants, we expect good things from you. There's a multitude of options available.
I thought I had found an event for refreshments. The Wilson Center "Perspectives on the 2007 Farm Bill" appeared to be promising due to its title. It was from 2-4:30, and my goal was to peek in on those in the room via the live video feed and see if it was worth going to. But the only thing on the tables right now is bottled water. No plates, no cookies, no double-stuff oreos.
I've found a lot of events for tomorrow. In fact, today I even got a flyer for free pop-tarts on Wednesday. But today does not seem to be the day.
If I eat double at the BBQ does that count as an extra meal?
I wasn't even hungry. I don't even like french fries. But today, I ate them. Judging from the smile on Jesse's face, I knew there was free food somewhere to be found. I raced to the kitchen and made sure to push through and get some before they were gone. I need to make sure I'm not hungry later.
The heat was intense and I was growing weaker by the block, but despite my fatigue I made it to California Tortilla in Chinatown today, where I ate for FREE.
