Foraging for Food on Capitol Hill

Today has been rather hectic for me. Not only did I arrive two hours late for work, having slept through my alarm, but I had absolutely no plans for the final day of the illustrious Free Food-A-Thon. My competitors confidently sauntered around the office as I spent an hour searching the internet in a minor state of crisis, looking for any event that I could attend. By midday, I had given up looking and decided to head to Capitol Hill without any plans whatsoever.

I wandered aimlessly around the area until I spotted the Heritage Foundation. I knew that no public events had been scheduled for today, but with all that money, they must have had some food somewhere.

In the spirit of fair play, we (Kate Monster and Tricky Tony) have decided to co-write our last post for the free food-a-thon. The competition has been stiff and there were a few times when we actually feared each other. But that is all in the past now.

Yesterday evening we both attended a Faith in Public Life event starring Senator Bob Casey, a Pro-Life Democrat from Pennsylvania. Not only was there free food at this event, but who wouldn't want to see the guy that crushed the disturbingly extreme Rick Santorum in the 2006 elections?

Tricky Tony may have thrown me a curve ball with this morning's Nissan joyride, but he has since learned that I never give up.

I would also like to include a few of the extra treats I have received to keep me going throughout the day. A full-out battle with Tiresome Tony really does burn those calories and constant replenishment is ever so necessary.

I suspect that Tony has been waiting for me to write my next Food-A-Thon post so that he can see how much he needs to one-up me. How tricky of him...

11:30am: With my stomach growling and my blood sugar dropping, I hurried to the Heritage Foundation to attend the talk "China, Christianity, and the Advent of Reason." Although Heritage lets me down philosophically and spiritually everyday, I hoped (and dare I say, prayed?) that their thick wallets would not fail to provide me with sumptuous refreshments.

I'm an Awful Person

The Campus Progress Free Food-a-Thon has created a monster. A Kate Monster, if you will (see Avenue Q character, "Kate Monster"). This morning I happily walked into the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute's Future Leaders' Conference in the hopes of enjoying a deliciously free continental breakfast. As soon as I walked up to registration, however, I realized I clearly did not belong--being neither Hispanic, nor there to "Advance the Hispanic Community's Diversity of Thought." Not that I don't care about those issues, I just happened to have come for the food. In the hopes of disguising myself, I did what any normal person would do...I developed an Australian accent. Clearly, my desire to defeat Tricky Tony in today's competition temporarily eclipsed any shred of moral decency or common sense that I might have had.
