It's been said (in the short-lived TV series "Sports Night") that Napoleon's battle plan was "First we show up, then we see what happens." I decided to adopt this is as my official plan of attack for the Free-Food-A-Thon.
As it turns out, this was not the wisest of decisions, as I spent the morning hastily searching the internet for some sort of magical listing of numerous places to get free food in DC on a given day. Shockingly, no such website exists.
So I started the day by securing free coffee from the machine in the lobby of my apartment building, something I'd never taken advantage of before. But after this promising start, I was out of ideas and time was running out before having to get to work. I headed to the Bruegger's at 21st and L to check out the half-priced, day-old bagel bin. OK, so this may not have been "free" per se, but I'd like to think it was still somewhat in the spirit of the competition, as I went for the most cost-effective option I could think of while still getting to work reasonably on time.
With the rest of the day still ahead, let's hope this battle plan works out better for me than it did for Napoleon.
