Starving interns and underpaid young professional- this pretty much sums up the majority of DC’s inhabitants.Thankfully, DC knows how undervalued both are, which is why it often offers up loads of free food and great deals, like free concerts and cheap movie tickets, including the AMC 8 at the Courthouse metro that offers $7 movie tickets on Thursdays with a valid student ID.(Thankfully, that student ID you've hung onto from college doesn't expire.)
Now on to the important stuff: Free Food and Good Food deals for this week (although many repeat weekly)
- Check out Gifford’s over near the E street Cinema for $3 Ice cream sundaes! This is a great deal for those who need to cool off after work and don't feel like shelling out a bunch of cash. Another Gifford's in-the-know tidbit: all ice cream purchases come with free sprinkles, rainbow or chocolate! But be sure to ask, because they sometimes "forget."
- The Bush Legacy Bus Kick-Off and Cook Out this Tuesday at 11:30 at 815 16th Street NW should be one of the more interesting events this week. Hosted by Americans United for Change, the event promises some true Americana: Bush Bashing and a BBQ cookout all for FREE. At 11:30 on Tuesday there will be a brief presentation followed by the cook-out.
- Starting Wednesday, sample the fare from Bhutan – a tiny Himalayan kingdom nuzzled between China and India- at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Cultural delicacies include tea churned with butter and salt, boiled ferns and chilies in yak cheese. (Yak cheese!)
- Campus Progress is hosting Spoken Word: Protest through Poetry on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Center for American Progress. In addition to some inspiring spoken word, we'll also have -- what else -- a free dinner!
We'll keep our ears open for other great deals, and feel free to comment below if you hear off anything good!
