Droopy Anderson, host/teacher/filmmaker, has taken everything he's learned from two stints on the DC/Baltimore National Poetry Slam Team, over five years of teaching high school, co-producing five award-winning films, and hosting the Mocha Hut poetry events to his unique style of spoken word.
Alvin Lau is a professional performance poet. He has ranked among the top seven poets in the country four times in four years. In 2007, he was named the official "Poet of Conscience" for Amnesty International.
Laura Perez is a 21-year-old student, activist, emcee, and poet. She is a former member of the DC Youth Slam Team and the current president of Poutre’, Howard University’s premier poetry organization. Laura has performed in venues across the metro area, New York, and Seattle.
Mario Rocha is a Latino poet from East LA. After being convicted of murder and attempted murder without physical evidence at age 16 he joined the Inside Out Writing Program and discovered his talent for writing. Today his stories, plays, and poems are published and performed in prisons throughout the country. He is the subject of the acclaimed documentary Mario’s Story (www.mariostory.org)
Triflava is a "progressive hip hop and beyond" band known for their versatile use of instruments to promote positive messages to audiences. Triflava has performed with revered Roots/4Hero collaborator Ursula Rucker and Jesse Bomani "D'Mite" Armah (creator of the controversial "Read A Book").
