This is almost tragic: Embattled Virginia Senator George Allen is now getting negative pushback from Confederate veteran's family groups... for his retractions on statements about the confederate flag.

Campaigning in a conservative state clearly shows the thin line right-wing candidates need to tread between upsetting constituencies who oppose symbols of bigotry and upsetting constituencies who honor them. I'm very close to starting to feel sorry for the man.

If it wasn't for the whole, you know, several dozen accusations of racism and all that.

Hell, after renegging on his agreement to allow the state to vote on the old state flag (complete with stars & bars), Gov. Sonny Perdue got it worse than most. Just google "'Sonny Perdue'+Flaggers" and see what comes up.

don't get me wrong, it is way overdue. But how much more fun would this be if this was in a context of a presidential race? I think Allen should run because of its comedic value.
