"it was agreed that, if limited strikes on Iran were carried out, the Administration could fend off criticism by arguing that they were a defensive action to save soldiers in Iraq."
When Press Secretary Dan Perino was asked about the Hesh article she repeated the mantra "we are pursuing a diplomatic solution in Iran."
But as Hersh comment's on DemocracyNow!,
"If they are pursuing a diplomatic solution, why not talk to the Iranians, why not talk to the Syrians, why not talk to Hamas, why not talk to Hezbollah? He doesn’t talk to people he doesn’t like. And all of those people, those four groups, are in the sites, are in the targets, of this White House right now, along with, of course, Iraq."
Hersh's past pieces have exposed Abu Ghraib, My Lai, among other egregious examples of covert international catastrophes. Let's hope Hersh's latest piece doesn't become the best prediction of Bush's final decisions.
I encourage you all to check our Hersh's full article in the New Yorker here.
And his interview with Amy Goodman here.
