I've been surrounded by people talking about "pop," adding "eh" to every sentence, and crying after last weekend's football game. My vacation in Michigan placed me far up north away from an internet connection. But even with just the few channels that our television received at Crystal Lake, I was still bombarded with ads in which grieving family members and double amputees begged the audience through their tears to not give up on a task they had given so much for.  

The ads are generated by Freedom's Watch, an organization "dedicated to fighting to protect the ideals and issues that keep America strong and prosperous." Employing rhetoric that is all too common in West Michigan, the organization cries that they will "give a voice to those who believe that victory is America's only choice. For those who believe in peace through strength, the cavalry is coming.

Peace through a cavalry. Increased troop strength is not the asnwer, and I see employing the stories of those who have sufferred to mislead citizens as a misuse of their bravery.

Are these ads a new low?

I have seen the ads too. They are truly disguting. The "Freedom's Watch" group running these ads are just exploiting real soldiers' pain for political gains. Example: on Hardball with Chris Matthews, Ari Fleishcer, the former Bush press secretary who is responsible for this ad campaign was asked for the name of the soldier in one of the ads. He did not know the name. To use these people in such ways and not even find out who they are is reprehensible.
