The Senate voted to reject a bill that included a timetable for troop withdrawal from Iraq. Do the Democrats lack the strength and will to do the right thing when it means standing up to President Bush?

The vote was 50-48, for the most part along party lines. Obviously, the Republicans are a thougher minority than we thought they would be. If they can defeat the Democrats while in the minority, then why were the Democrats not able to do the same thing when they were the minority? How long will it take till they finally stand up and say "enough"? After all, that's what they were elected for. It's not only their right, but their duty to stand up and do the right thing, even if it means going against the president.

Strength

Yes, they lack strength. There are not enough Democratic/antiwar Senators to get anything done in the Senate. 60 is the magic number. Usually it's a good thing that the Senate operates on a deliberately slowed timetable--in this case it clearly is not.
