Of flag burning, and this story is particularly strange. Three Yale students, including one Pakistani-American who acted as a translator for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, were arrested after burning a flag atop a New Haven house in the middle of the night. All three students were foreign-born. Hey guys, did you think this prank would win any sympathy for immigrants? What were you thinking?
It was definitely a stupid prank, and not the smartest thing in the world for these guys to do. The arrest was warranted on the grounds that it was completely hazardous. But they weren't arrested for flag burning, they were arrested for arson, among other things. So, the NYT article doesn't do a great job of covering this story - making it seem. at first glance, like 3 foreign-born men were arrested for being anti-American - think that didn't have something to do with it?
yes, they were def arrested b/c they almost set a house on fire. which is why i'm wondering why they thought this would be a meaningful protest, and not something that would make them look like they were endangering their community. or maybe it was just some kind of weird prank?
