"They are the result of incompetence on American soil."
Pleasant headline, no? It's been a whie since I've blogged for CP, but this article from Tom Shine's ABC News blog caught my eye, and then made me sick.
In case there was any doubt as to the utterly broken-down, over-run, and inadequately funded state of the VA, this story of an officer from the Marine Corps Reserve who served in Fallujah is a downright disturbing prototype of everything wrong with veterans' "care" in the US.
I'll let the article speak for itself. To see how this fits into the broader scope of problems in the VA, check out the CP Crib Sheet written by yours truly (sorry for the shameless plug).
I still don't get how this isn't a national controversy. Why isn't anyone holding the government in general and the Bush administration in particular responsible for their continuing refusal to adequately fund the VA while they pour countless billions into the war effort and into the pockets of wealthy contractors?
That's my rant. Happy Election Day.

Instead of having designated VA facilities, our government should pay for (or subsidize) veterans' care at the same facilities the rest of us use.
