Utah University Students Get Involved

As the primary elections for Salt Lake City Mayor inches closer some candidates spoke at the University of Utah (The U).  Hopefully this will inspire students to get out there and vote both at the primaries and the general elections coming up in November.  So far the candidates all seem to be fighting tooth and nail. The S.J. Quinney College of Law at the U posted a debate between most of the candidates, rather dry but lots of information.

The really exciting part about all this is the sheer amount of interns working on the local campaigns from The U.  The Daily Utah Chronicle ran a post saying that there were nearly 40 interns in the campaigns.  Slowly but surely Utah’s youth are getting involved with politics and getting our voices heard.  I'm anxious to see what happens.

Reciprocated Feelings

It will be very interesting to see the direction politics will take in the near future. What with students being educated and becoming informed that despite different theories, their vote most definately does count. Especially when not just Utah's youth is getting involved, but youth nationwide as well. I agree that it's exciting to see so much involvement going on locally...it is equally exciting and even more inspiring to see locals take action abroad! Feels good to open your eyes to see there's a lot more going on and you have the ability to be involved!

I think it's way cool :)

The Hinckley has like 20-30 kids here in DC now and 40 on campaigns.. perhaps we can actually change some stuff.

And with the passing of the Education Bill to put money on public grants for higher education... it would appear we are being heard.

Good to hear. And good to see U of U represented on CP

I'm a Utah County native, going to school in Nashville. I was at home for a few weeks this summer, however, and I almost fainted at the sight of two "Ron Paul Revolution" signs in Santaquin, Utah. I mean, yes, the appeal of Ron Paul and his ability to mobilize supporters is a very dark mystery to me, but I don't ever remember seeing any sign of early involvement in national elections in the area before. Who are these mysterious political activists in South Utah County, and where have they been hiding?

Yeah! I remember some random signs for Ron Paul posted on the way down to St George... it was really weird seeing them in the cow fields. It's warming to see people supporting their candidate.

Truly comforting

I'm happy to see that so many others are taking a political stance.
I think it's extremely important that people my age (21) really get into what's happening in the world.
Since people before us have a real issue with screwing things up, it's our place to decide what kind of future we would like to be living in.
