I started my final Saturday in the District (around 2pm) with a trip to the National Portrait Gallery. I though I was thoroughly impressed by some of the exhibitions, the "RECOGNIZE! Hip Hop" display was a bit too much for me to handle. I must say, Smithsonian museums always warm my heart. Yay for government patronization of the arts!
I followed up my museum trip with a film at E Street Cinema. After discovering that Tell No One was sold out for the second weekend in a row, I ended up seeing Water Lillies instead. I guess it was ok, but personally, I'm just not comfortable watching 15 year old lesbians make out. I don't know if that says more about me of the director, Celine Sciamma.
Rather coincidentally, the friends I was planning on going out with were also spending their evening enjoying French film. If you've seen Jeux d'Enfants please comment with your take on the ending. I think it's all metaphor... and the aim is more about aesthetics than plot resolution. Of course, I have no background in film whatsoever. Academic or otherwise...
Eventually we made our way down the orange line to a wonderful place called Clarendon where we proceeded to dance the night away at Clarendon Ballroom. Much like the name suggests, the place is reminiscent of high school prom- in a good way. The atmosphere is fun, the drinks are cheap and the place encourages youthful silliness- something sorely needed in this town. The only drawback is that the place closes at 1.30 am, although this gives you plenty of time to metro or taxi it up to Dupont, Adam's Morgan or U-street to finish the night strong. For my part, I went home and promptly fell asleep after having endured my taxi driver's apparent frustration with the fact that I was awake at 2am. I love DC!
Today's Sartorialist. Why would someone with such horrible posture incessantly wear sleeveless dresses? In any case, I think the yellow piece is incredible (for women with spines!). Also, bye bye Budapest.
