I have only had good experiences at Madhatter on 1831 M street in Dupont, but I have to admit, I was a bit disapointed with the decor the first time I went. I imagined that there would be oversized teapots, brightly colored plastic chairs, and Jefferson Airplane songs playing on repeat in a bar named after Alice in Wonderland.
For better or for worse, the bar is actually classier in real life that it was in my twisted imagination. The theme of the bar is mostly displaced in framed pictures and photos of the book and movie. I heard that you the bartender gives free drinks to anyone wearing a big, silly hat. None of my friends were rocking a cat-in-the-hat style outfit, so I can't say for sure.
