I'll admit, I have lived in Northeast Capitol Hill since i moved to DC a few months ago, and just started hanging out there. People are always inviting to to the usual suspect neighborhoods: Adams Morgan, Dupont, U street, so I had hardly even explored my own turf.
H street is still a bit off the beaten DC-nightlife-path, so what you'll find are some serious scenesters trying to get stuff done. On a Friday night the street is full of tatooed hipsters on bicycles going to the Burlesque Show at the Palace of Wonders, or well-dressed classy folks sipping $10 cocktails at the H Street Martini Lounge, or my friends sipping beers at The Pug.
Pug is on 1234 H street has a fun, relatively unpretentious atmosphere. They serve hot dogs and cheeseballs. According to the bartender, they don't offer drink specials in an effort to keep out the rift-raft and develop a more loyal cliente. (Sounds a bit counter-intuitive to me, but okay.) You don't have to go broke there as they do have $3 cans, which is as good as it gets in certain DC establishments.
