They also serve up some soul food for the hungry music listener. Madam’s Organ feels a little more sophisticated than the typical top 40s dance-a-thon that makes the neighborhood famous, but only in that gritty, New Orleans kind of way.
The ceiling on the first floor is decorated with a clutter of stuffed ram, buffalo and deer heads along with drums, guitars, and a bird on a bicycle, while the walls have pictures of musicians and a sign that reads, “Ladies kindly do your soliciting discreetly.”
A few weekends ago I saw a band called Signature Live perform there, and definitely got into the “disco jazz” covers of classic songs. Thursday nights they have Nonprofit Happy Hour, this week featuring Rails-to-Trails Conservancy for all those nature lovers.
