Ovarian is not the only kind of cancer
By Teresa Tollend Jan 31st 2008 at 5:54 pm EST
Studies have shown for years that the pill protects against ovarian cancer so this new study is somewhat redundent. Studies have also shown for years that the pill increases the risk of cervical cancer and liver cancel. The studies on breast cancer are about evenly divided. About half the studies show an increased risk and the other half show no effect. There are also studies showing that the pill increases the risk for some forms of cardiovascular disease. When the Times story quotes: "Not only does the pill prevent pregnancy, but in the long term, you actually get less cancer as well." Without qualifiers, this statement is false.
