When asked about modern sins,  Archbishop Gianfranco Girotti listed pollution as a sinful act.

Girotti, in an interview headlined "New Forms of Social Sin," also listed "ecological" offences as modern evils.

In recent months, Pope Benedict has made several strong appeals for the protection of the environment, saying issues such as climate change had become gravely important for the entire human race.

Under Benedict and his predecessor John Paul, the Vatican has become progressively "green".

It has installed photovoltaic cells on buildings to produce electricity and hosted a scientific conference to discuss the ramifications of global warming and climate change, widely blamed on human use of fossil fuels.

If only God had figured out ecological offenses earlier! He could have "revealed" that sin to a Pope *decades* ago.

If only politicians from both parties in the 1970s listened to those crazy environmentalists claiming that global warming is going to cause massive damage to the Earth, we could have taken action to stop it *decades* ago.

pollution control vs. birth control

Isn't it ironic how two of the new cardinal sins, pollution and exacerbating poverty are in stark contrast with the one on birth control and stem cell research?

Wait, am I saying the catholic church is a little hypocritical? thats a first...
