I am a coffee junkie. It came on slowly: I made it all the way through college and two stressful jobs without picking up the habit, but once I moved to Italy it was all over. I started out just eating the foam off of my morning cappuccino, but by the time I moved back to America I was an addict.

The problem with discovering coffee in Italy is that it’s ITALIAN coffee.  Which is pretty much the greatest thing ever.  So I had to adjust to American-style coffee, which is not the same, and endure a lot of my mother calling me a snob just because I think Americans make their coffee too hot.  (Which we do.)

Eventually I settled on a starbucks latte as my caffeine injection of choice.  But then summer came around, and hot beverages lost their appeal.  I have a serious problem paying for an iced latte, though: the point of a latte is the steamed milk, which is clearly not steamed anymore once you add ice.  Also, it’s wicked expensive for something so watered down.

And finally, I get to the point of this post: a doppio on ice.  It costs $2.09 with tax, about half what an iced latte costs.  Two shots of espresso, and I can add my own milk.  DE-LISH.  Try it, and start your own addiction!

I agree. After studying abroad in Havana, most coffee in this country is too weak, sour, expensive, or all of the above. I still drink it, of course, because I'm a caffeine junkie, but the only coffee I really like I make at home myself.

I use a Moka Express and espresso from Trader Joe's.

Sooooo much better than Starbucks...
