Hate Speech Protected Under Free Speech?
Bad? Brilliant?

This opinion piece was published in the Colorado University school paper this past Monday, just two days before the 66th anniversary of FDR's Executive Order mandating the internment of Japanese-Americans across the country.

I don't even know how to begin to discuss this.

Satire

The piece in question is satire--not well-written satire, but it's important to note the author's intentions.

Stop the hate!

It appears to me this is nothing BUT hate speech wrapped up in a pretty bow we call satyre. Cracking jokes (humor) promotes prejudice, making it all OK. It is not.
The antidote for free speech is more free speech. Perhaps the campus paper can run an article informing students on the sociological dangers of racist jokes?

I feel for you; my campus is also dealing with the free speech/hate speech thing, (see Link. College hate speech codes have been legally struck down all across our great nation leaving minorities open to verbal and emotional attack. Education codes are being examined and attemts are being made at changing them back to a more conservative mandate. I fear for the system of education in the next decade if we do not take notice, stand up and peacefully resist.

Wow...
