So for anyone who hasn't been to Busboys and Poets yet, you should make it a priority. I just went there for a happy hour with my coworkers and we had a great time. If you call ahead they can sometimes get you a group of tables, or all seated together quickly which is great after work. Even better they have an extensive menu of both drinks and food - the quesadillas are great. If you can legally drink the pomegranate margarita is also worth trying.

The other highlight of going to Busboys and Poets are the bookstore, and the featured speakers.  Busboys usually has several authors and poets in over the course of a month for lectures and readings.  In addition to that there are usually open mike nights during the evening and other events.  Overall Busboys and Poets is definitely a place to be.  To get there take the U St. Metro stop!

I was having dinner there a couple of weeks ago, and there was some function clearly about to begin in the side room. And then the Speaker walked in. As in, Nancy Pelosi. It was pretty sweet. She was there talking to young progressives (or liberals, or whatever they were, although it was definitely something for young people) and to sign her new book.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. It's such a haven for progressives, progressive organizing, and progress in general. They are even completely wnd powered! Just watch out for the expensive drinks. There are no prices on the cocktail menu, and some of them are $10.

Meh

I used to like it, but then I found out the conditions the employees work under.

For an establishment that sells friggin Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Emma Goldman, Karl Marx, etc., the wait staff doesn't even have a union (and they've certainly tried in the past). Though really, to fit with the kind of image it's trying to cast for itself, Busboys & Poets should be a worker-owned cooperative.

Someday...
