While his comments about Obama do border on racism ("clean and articulate"?), this kind of unbelievably blunt talk from a presidential candidate will make the debates that much better.
Same story, different ethnicity. He may be blunt, but I think he and Hillary are largely shooting for the same voters and donors in those states where a candidate like Biden would have a shot, and I'll be absolutely floored if he comes anywhere close to keeping pace with her.
Oh, he'll never come close to winning the nomination, we agree.
But it'll be useful to have him in the debates - if the other guys give a fluff answer, having Biden in there to say "that's bullshit, that'll never work" will help the Democrats to ultimately come up with the strongest candidate.
The problem isn't that you and I know that Biden has no shot at the nomination--it's that HE might not know that. And if he doesn't know that by the first debate, then his staffers during debate prep will be making damn sure he doesn't do anything so impolitic as call bullshit on his opponents (at least, not in terms strong enough to make news).
My guess is he'll take potshots at Edwards and Obama, and hope for a Cabinet post in the Clinton Administration.
Actually, I take it back - you're right. I just remember a silly attack on Dean for the coloration of his cabinet in Vermont.
Ugh. Biden's useful if he plays the role of the guy his last lap, pointing around the room and going "Fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out."
Please remember that Campus Progress' terms of use do not allow promoting or endorsing any particular political party or candidate for office. Posts or comments that do this will be deleted.
Biden's a footnote.

What do you mean? I think we benefit from having Sharpton in the debates, too.

If he actually believe's he's electable... Ugh.
