Mitt Romney in Bed with Torture-for-Hire

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Utah finance co-chair, Robert Lichfield, is being sued by over 100 victims. Lichfield, it turns out, made his money by running camps where they lock up and torture people. Not convicted criminals. Not even accused terrorists. The people he tortures are children and teenagers.

Some fretful parents are mislead into hiring Lichfield, thinking his “treatment centers” will help their children avoid making mistakes. Other customers are repugnant parents who want to abuse their children and aren’t even man enough to do it themselves. Lichfield’s thugs lock up these youth and, as described in the law suit, subject them to battery, sleep deprivation, starvation, sexual abuse, and forms of cruelty that don’t even have names, all with the promise to parents that this will make their children more obedient.

Similar “behavior modification camps” have been run by Mel Sembler, Romney’s national finance co-chair. Sembler’s Straight Inc. paid out millions in lawsuits before it finally closed. (Actually, it still exists, but under a new name to escape responsibility for what it did under its old name.) Sembler survived with enough cash that, in addition to helping Romney, his other philanthropic work includes heading the Scooter Libby Defense Fund.

If Romney becomes President, it will be because of the money he received from Lichfield, Sembler, and their friends. He will be a President who owes favors to gulag schools.

What can we do to stop this? Step 1 is to email Romney (compliance1@mittromney.com) and urge him to cut all his ties to gulag schools. Step 2 is to do what we can as citizens to ensure he loses the Republican Primary and, failing that, the general election.

These programs seem to run the gamut.

On the one hand, I knew a pregnant teenage speed-freak who were sent by their parents on programs like these that centered around outdoorsmanship and wilderness training, and it really helped her out.

On the other hand, I knew a perfectly nice girl whose first-generation immigrant parents freaked out when they found out she had a (perfectly nice) boyfriend at age 15, and sent her off to a 'reform school' in Mexico. She came back a drug-addicted ruffian.

Looks like Robert Lichfield ran one of the bad ones - seriously, just how much of a vile motherfucker do you have to be to take treat kids like this in their darkest, most vulnerable hour?

not the first time

Lichfield has a history of buying politicians to be sure his ultra profitable camps go unregulated.

I wont lie, this whole thing is personal for me as my brother was locked up in one of Lichfields WWASP camps years ago.

Lichfield is a dirty and under no circumstances should he or anyone he funds be in any position of power.
