New Orleans rejected for presidential debates

Not a surprise, as the New York Times points out, but it is disappointing.

Having the debate in New Orleans would provide a forum for residents to grill candidates. But the committee in charge of the decision, as the Times complains, "sounded as if they cared more about the stretch-limo and hospitality-suite amenities of politicking."

I agree, give the city a chance to help right its wrong, and to ask the difficult and important questions to the person who will be the next president.

nawlins gets to host the nba all star game, Link and the college football national championship Link but not an event where local residents might be able to ask why they got fucked by the federal (and state and local to be fair) governments and continue to be fucked (campus progress ran an article over the summer about how the levee/sewage system is worse off than before and how the rebuilding process has been disgustingly held up)

my new orleans picks of the day: everyone go listen to lil wayne's "georgia bush" and then read the we could be famous blog for a taste of the local political scene. why the shout out? my friend runs it. Link

The Committee on Presidential Debates is the biggest bullshit ever and they have one of the most bureaucratic and dictatorial rules ever. They even decide on which questions should get in the debates and what issues are the candidates going to talk and what issues they are going to skip talking about.
