Go watch this video of Bill and Geraldo.
It's time for a serious conversation about Bill O'Reilly.
In truth, I haven't seen anyone this red-faced angry since that time my late grandfather was low on insulin and inventing reasons to berate nearby family members. My grandfather was a World War II veteran and former cop who had nine kids--this was a guy who knew from angry.
By all accounts, Bill O'Reilly has made an ass of himself at many points during his career. He repeatedly lied about winning a Peabody, then smeared and sued anyone who had the temerity to point it out. Just last week he cut the mic of a 29 year Army veteran, who taught the Geneva Conventions for the Army, for disagreeing with him about the Geneva Conventions. He had that falafel thing. He cut Jeremy Glick's mic after trying to appropriate Glick's late father's memory to bolster his argument. Late last month he cut the mic of his own radio co-host when she told him that the White House didn't want a transcript of Miers, Rove, or Gonzales's testimony (of course she was right and O'Reilly was wrong--and if you listen, focus on how he sounds when he starts screaming at her and compare it to how he yells at Geraldo. It's frightening to think of him in a small studio, absolutely shrieking at this poor woman whose only crime was a series of poor career choices.). He defended both the Abu Ghraib offenders and the perpetrators of the Haditha massacre by pointing out that US troops had massacred German prisoners of war at Malmady, Belgium, despite the fact that the Americans were the ones massacred by German SS.
In short, he's a frequently misinformed and megalomaniacal gasbag.
But look--cutting both his co-host and Col. Wright's microphones happened within the past month, and his screaming match with Geraldo is brand spankin' new. And both Geraldo and his radio co-host are regular associates of his whom he sees on a regular basis and usually treats well on his shows. It seems like he is lashing out with increased frequency at those around him, indiscriminately where their personal relationships are concerned (one first-time guest and two long-time colleagues). Even for him, he's being an exceptional jerk in front of a national audience. I'm actually a little concerned for his upcoming guests and co-workers. This is not a man I'd feel comfortable being with in a room with sharp objects (hell, this is not a man I'd feel comfortable being in a room with, period). I'd suggest he get his blood sugar checked, and cut back on any drinking he might be doing. But even if nothing is physiologically wrong with him, there is definitely something about him that isn't right.
If you're in a room with Geraldo Rivera, and he's the calm one, there's something seriously wrong.

Cause unlike Coulter, we'll get to watch it all happen on TV.
