I know, I know -- it's "just symbolic." But how can a bill like this pass the House so easily? How can you pack so much pandering into one governing body? At least we now know there's one thing Democrats and Republicans agree on -- that separation of church and state isn't important.

If you think I'm overreacting, then read the bill's language. Maybe the bill's wording is just subtle enough to avoid it being outrightly constitutional, but for those of us who are secular and/or not Christian, it's hard not to feel threatened or insulted.

...as to why Christmas is a Christian holiday, other than "because a lot of uninformed Christians say it is."

...Really? The etymology of the holiday's very name doesn't count? The fact that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus doesn't count?

Yeah yeah, we all know about the non-Christian roots of the celebration, and all the non-Christian cultural aspects of the holiday that have been co-opted into it. But if you want to look at the facts on the ground, this is a holiday celebrated overwhemingly by Christians, and largely not celebrated by believers of different faiths. Threatened?

The only group that should feel threatened by this bill is other countries who are persecuting Christians, like China. The bill is simply standard acknowledgment and recognition aside from that "rejects bigotry and persecution..." part.
