Mo' food: Jumbo Slice

Being originally from New York (OK, upstate, but I have discerning tastes with roots in NYC), I'm a perpetual complainer about two things: bagels and pizza (I would complain about cheesecake, but have accepted the fact that nowhere can come close to Junior's). Having all but given up on a finding a good bagel in this town (there are edible bagels; there are even halway decent ones; there are no good bagels). I'm in the same predicament with pizza. It's not that there aren't delicious pizza options out there, it's that none of them are my ideation of what pizza should be.

However, I've managed to quell my inner rage by adopting every Washingtonian's guilty pleasure as a proxy: jumbo slice.

If you haven't had it, you've probably seen it: a giant slice of pizza. Be warned, however, all jumbo slice is not created equal.

While most self-respecting DC residents will cast disparging comments Adams-Morgan's way in reference to Friday and Saturday nights (and pray that no one catches them out there on those nights), most cannot resist the call of Pizza Mart. For all intents and purposes, this is the original jumbo slice, and it's the best. Do not fall prey to imposters along 18th St., just look for the red awning. If there's a line, wait in it; it's worth it.

While there have been rumors of me getting extraordinarily large slices of a consumable appearing to be much like "pizza," the only other place I generally get jumbo slice is Jumbo Pizza on U Street, between 13th and 14th next to Twins and Axis. Some people find it sketch, I find it delicious.

Anyone else have a favorite? (I swear if you say Pizza Boli, you're dead to me.)

I know where your roots came from BROOKLYN and they have spoiled you since there is NO OTHER pizza and bagels like them anywhere. You need to experience the taste and smell to appreciate the uniqueness
