Much as I love Rob, I think he's wrong about Time's Person of the Year. Vladimir Putin, while an influential figure in the realm of foreign policy is no Al Gore, recipient of a Nobel peace prize and helped steer the environmental movement from the fringe to the forefront. The thing about Gore’s influence is, well, it’s all influence. Gore doesn’t hold a position of power like the Condoleezza Rice or Hu Jintao. His job is purely philanthropic. Although I’d really like the person of the year to be someone other than a white man, I have to say that it’s Gore’s year. And let’s face it. Anything is better than last year’s “you.”
