The thing is, when you're a government official forced into a shameful resignation you suddenly get invited to teach at prestigious institutions. Donald Rumsfeld has been tapped to teach at Stanford:

[Rumsfeld] has been appointed to a one-year stint as a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, joining fellow conservatives George Shultz and Newt Gingrich.

"Don has had immense experience in public service, and has much to contribute to society as a result," said the institution's director, John Raisian. "I am pleased that he will spend time during the coming year in thinking, writing and advising on important matters of public policy."

While he's at Stanford, Rumsfeld will participate in a task force examining national security and world peace in the post-Sept. 11 era, Raisian said.

Campus Progress is sponsoring a contest where you can come up with the courses that shamed former officials will be teaching next. You can win some money for your textbooks.

A Joke

"I am pleased that he will spend time during the coming year in thinking, writing and advising on important matters of public policy."

I wonder what evidence this gentleman would cite that would make him believe that Rumsfeld has important ideas about "important matters of public policy." Even a cursory examination of his record while Defense Secretary indicates that the only ideas he seems to have concern how to f--k up other countries. The Hoover Institution is a real joke named after one of the worst presidents we've ever had.
