Ford Stands With LGBT Community

I've only owned Fords, my parents have only owned Fords, my grandparents have only owned Fords. We are the kind of brand loyal family a corporation like Ford dreams of.

That's why I found it so troubling earlier this month when it seemed the company had caved to the right-wing American Family Association (AFA) by committing to pull all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicle ads in LGBT publications.

Earlier this week, Ford execs met with representatives from the nation's leading LGBT groups. After the meeting, Ford recommitted itself as a company promoting diversity and inclusion. Not only will Ford continue to advertise its Jaguar and Land Rover brands in LGBT publications, the company will advertise all of eight of its brands in these publications, something the company has never done before.

Ford has long been a leader in providing benefits to LGBT employees and their partners and supporting LGBT community and advocacy organizations.

Ford should be commended for rejecting the hateful mission of the AFA and maintaining Ford's leadership as one of the most supportive corporations for LGBT employees and consumers.

Even if the decision came down to money, LGBT purchasing power still won out, right-wing extremism lost, and the Blue Oval tradition will continue in my family.

That is good news. . .

. . . however it is startling that the Ford fleet's average fuel economy is lower than that of the original Model T (25 mpg).

"Ford's Model T, which went 25 miles on a gallon of gasoline, was more fuel efficient than the current Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicle -- which manages just 16 miles per gallon."
-- Detroit News, 6/4/03

We need to begin serious examination of continuing to support the automobile industry, which in turn, supports the petroleum industry by maintaining inefficiencies.

HEMP

Bio-diesel engines running on pure hemp fuel. Hemp extracts carbon from the atmosphere, which is then re-released upon burning. Currently, we did up carbon from beneath the earth's crust and release it into the atmosphere. Whether or not you believe in "Global Warming," we are having a significant impact on the atmosphere.

On the one hand...

...It's great to hear that Ford is supporting its gay and lesbian workers just as it does its straight ones.

That said:

Why in the world would anyone buy a Ford?

Depending on what class of car you're looking at, you've got Acura's Integra and RSX, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry... Or if we're really moving up on the performance chain, a Skyline. ;P

They're more fun to drive, they're reliable as hell, and they're cheaper. Usually better fuel economy, too.

To be fair, my dad owns a '68 Ford Mustang, but that's an exception; it's a classic, he's owned it since the seventies, and he spends time on it because it's his baby.

Why in the world would somone consciously choose a Ford today over an import?

Trucks, man. Trucks. A Ford work truck can be rode hard and put up wet for 200,000 miles with the original tranny and little major maintenance. My GMC used to fall apart every 15,000 miles after 115,000, but my dad's company has a fleet of F-150s and they perform really well across the board.

I agree with you but I'm a die hard fan of Ford. So, I may not think like that. Link
