We are happy to announce that Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of Democracy Now!, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the Campus Progress / The Nation Southern Regional Conference at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA on February 6-8, 2009.

Democracy Now! is an award winning and independent daily news program featuring in-depth interviews, interesting debates, and hard-hitting reporting on national and international affairs, and grassroots activism.

Because Democracy Now! is independent, it is able to offer information and viewpoints that are difficult to find in much of the mainstream media.



The show is broadcasted on 700 radio, TV, cable, and satellite networks around the world, including Pacifica, NPR, community, many college radio and public access stations, and PBS. It is the fastest growing independent news show in the US. You can also find the show at democracynow.org.

Amy Goodman was recently awarded the Right Livelihood Award for her work on Democracy Now!, and has previously received the Gracie Award for Individual Achievement for a Public Broadcasting Host, from American Women in Radio and Television, the Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship, Polk Award, Robert F. Kennedy Prize for International Reporting, and the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award, and awards from the Associated Press, United Press International, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Project Censored.

Goodman is also the author or co-author of three New York Times bestsellers: Standing Up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times (2008), Static: Government Liars, Media Cheerleaders, and the People Who Fight Back (2006) and The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them (2004).

The Southern Regional Conference includes two separate tracks: journalism, and activism. Both tracks include Goodman’s keynote address, as well as trainings, discussions, and more. Some travel and housing assistance is available.
