Below you will find some of the questions that have been proposed regarding the issue of designer vaginas. My question is that beyond a woman having a drastic genetic defect, illness or injury that has deformed her vagina in some way making intercourse painful of difficult, why would a woman be compelled to have her vagina surgically altered? This article made me lay awake at night wondering where our society is going and what are the influences/messages about female sexuality that some would go to such drastic artificial measures to fix something that in it's natural state is now considered a problem. Looking towards the future I wondered, "What's next, artificial orgasm?"

We almost have artificial orgasms.

I mean not literally, but I'd feel safe to assume that most men expect women to orgasm just like a porn star too and I think that is what started the designer vagina movement as well.

I would call it literal myself, and an excellent example I did not even think of myself. Thank you for adding it to this discussion since a very high percentage of women admit they have faked it AND a very low percentage of men think it has happened to them.

The type of fake orgasm I was referring are those hormone creams you put on your genitals to have you feel more sensation. I am also forseeing an "orgasm pill" coming down the pike.

I look forward to hearing yours and others thoughts on this subject.

purely pleasure?

According to this Salon Link Article, it can allow women to have better, more pleasurable sex. If it allows a woman to actually orgasm during sexual intercourse, who are we to say no?

Thanks for your response Nicole and you have raised a good point. It is limited however. It concerns me greatly that as a society we are going towards surgery as opposed to other available options for women to experience better orgasm and more pleasure thru surgical intervention WHEN the other options would also benefit the relationship over all such as thru communication and intimacy. I am also alarmed at the fact that women are having surgery to fix some thing that isn't broken.

Would you have your husband/boyfriend/significant other have a surgical procedure to enable him to acheive orgasm thru having his balls batted back and forth?

Question...
By Superduperficial Mar 6th 2007 at 10:38 pm EST
...Under any realistic definition, wouldn't all masturbation qualify as an "artificial orgasm"?

Anyhoo, this isn't so much a male thing or a female thing as a human thing.

There are plenty of spam messages in all our inbox for men who'd like 'designer' genitals as well.

No, a pill to make you orgasm, or more realistically a cream you put on your genitals to make them more sensative.
Men's Designer Genitals

You are absolutely right about that. I would include viagra and like drugs in that catagory as well. No approval/desire required. Just pop a pill and away you go. I think it is juat as serious of an issue regarding women's and mens genitals.

Thanks for your initial response, I hope to hear more of your thoughts. I think this will be a very valuable conversation for many people.

Do not interfere with nature
By YLiberal Mar 8th 2007 at 2:07 pm EST
I sympathize with woman, specially older woman in menopause that modern technology has not discovered the “life style” medication unlike their man counter part where medication exists for every problem like Erectile Dysfunction to Premature evaluation.
However the real orgasm requires emotional intimacy and the drugs, surgery or other artificial means has little or no domain in the territory of the emotional intimacy.
Designer’s vagina may have some case if the designer is the owner of the vagina. However this is more likely to be outcome through the man’s manipulation or unreasonable greed from the owner of the vagina.
Female circumcision or genital mutilation is despicable, ugly, barbaric and evil custom practiced in some societies. That is one example of the extreme manipulation of female sexuality. Vaginal rejuvenation or Gynecological surgery for non-medical reasons is another example in the opposite direction. In general less is the interference with Mother Nature, better of you are!

Also I wonder there are many interesting blogs at the CampusProgress.org with important topics like healthcare, Libby and reed scandals, glorified hat mongers at the conservative PAC .. and so on. This blog invited the highest number of comments !

I really enjoyed your response YLiberal. Thank you!

It is good to see that as the next generation in "power" we can take so many things into consideration in the political arena, including our sexuality. I do plan on continuing my blogs and look forward to your ongoing participation.

Intimacy stems from communication and this is one of my goals by pursuing this subject matter. The awareness and attention on female orgasm is on the rise on campuses across our country. The unfortunate thing about this is that most often it is Psychologists and Sexologists (about as much different between the two as democrats and the other guys) which offers a VERY LIMITED view of female orgasm.

Maybe they will add a throne for the most popular blog ever written on this site!
I hope others post articles they find on female sexuality

That to many would be very interesting. Enjoy!
