Stuck at a progressive desk job/internship this summer, but wish you could get paid to paint the town red?  Think you can turn your D.C. days and nights into witty fodder for keeping the city’s hungry young residents in the know? If so, apply to be a Campus Progress Social Capital Correspondent and help convince D.C.’s newcomers and summer transplants that no, they shouldn’t have just gone to New York.

What is Social Capital?

Social Capital is part of the Campus Progress website, which produces original content during the summer, including:

a) A community blog which highlights DC trends, events, news, and culture that might be of interest to young progressives including interns and other hip young DC denizens.

b) An up-to-date weekly calendar of events in DC, sorted into categories.

c) A launching pad for intern-specific events in DC, sponsored by Campus Progress.

Who are SoCap Correspondents?

SoCap Correspondents are young progressive people who know the DC scene (or are willing to get to know it) and are always up for a good concert, happy hour, party, movie, political event, restaurant excursion or book signing. They are quality writers, who we can count on to produce funny, engaging, well-written blog posts by a certain time each week.

What is the role of Social Capital Correspondents?

SoCap correspondents will be responsible for:

a)    Posting at least four well-written blog entries per week.
b)    Promoting all Campus Progress summer events (especially the Campus Progress National Conference) to their respective offices, list servs, and friends.
c)    Adding at least 4 events of interest to the Social Capital Google calendar each week

How will Correspondents be compensated?

If Correspondents fulfill all duties listed above, Campus Progress will compensate them for their work at a rate of $35 per week.  Correspondents could get paid as much as $60 a week based on the quality and quantity of their contributions.

What is the application process?

If you are interested in applying, please fill out the attached application. Email the attached application, including a sample blog post of approximately 250-350 words (can be about anything intern-relevant, DC-related) to speakers@campusprogress.org by June 1, 2008. You will be notified by June 4th if you are a Social Capital correspondent and. The duration of the blog is 9 weeks starting on June 11th.
