Guardian writer Nick Cohen has repeated the same tired, New Labour rhetoric against all those who opposed the Iraq war. Like his fellow apostate Christopher Hitchens, he accuses liberals of being soft on "Islamic fascism" and supporting dictatorial regimes. Same old, same old. Soon he'll be blaming the left for cancer.
...But when Hitchens picks a fight he's usually correct. Many of the louder voices on the Left, particularly the academic circles somewhat removed from Joe Schmoe on the street and the old-guard activist circles that used to count Hitchens as a member (The Nation, et al.) are soft on Islamic fascism. This is a global issue, especially in Europe where rising Islamic radicalism is a huge social problem.
We're not seeing a concerted effort from the free world to assert that radical Islamism - with the subjugation of women, the criminalization of homosexuality, and the murder of apostates - is simply not a legitimate way of living, not only in the West but anywhere.
