I'm living in DC, and I'll be honest, if this is the 8th gayest city in the states, US states need some directed efforts at gay-i-fication!
The survey uses a slightly odd measurement, to be fair. They count the numer of same-sex households, which may be the best way to measure this kind of thing, but not entirely accurate.
Also, I've been to some of the other cities on the top ten list (Oakland, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles) and their gay scenes feel a lot less male-dominated. It seems that gay neighborhood equals gay male neighborhood for many places.
Good thing DC has the nation's oldest lesbian bar.
