David Halperin already addressed the general lack of civilitiy and professionalism on Mattera's part... and over at the National Review, associate editor Alston B. Ramsay agreed. Hopefully Jason will pay attention to our "eviscerating response," as Ramsay himself put it.
Perhaps Jason and YAF should take note that their response to our request for press credentials was called "not funny," "not accurate," "sneering," "crass," "indefensible," and "bankrupt-" in one National Review article. Given that Jason has himself written for the National Review Online, we hope he'll take their opinions to heart instead of dismissing them as yet another "illegitimate news outlet" because he disagrees with them.

It's the antidote to writing like Mattera's, which deflates quickly if you don't keep it locked in an echo chamber.
Just a quick plug: Every progressive seriously interested in ideas should read the National Review, The New Republic, Reason, and yes, I suppose, The American Prospect. ;)
WFB's journal has, over the course of decades, earned its respect even from those who (like myself) disagree with them about almost everything.
Tip of the hat to NR.
