That's a pretty funny coincidence

Headline on Sunday: Prince Harry to be Deployed in Iraq

Headline today: Blair to Announce Troops Withdrawal

Now, I don't agree with Congressman Charlie Rangel that we should reinstitute the draft, but this pretty funny coincidence seems to say that there just might be something to the idea that leaders take war more seriously when it's their kids who are at risk.

Raising Dollars to get Prince Harry over here
By Southern Progress Feb 21st 2007 at 8:44 am EST
I was beginning to wonder if anybody else found this rather ironic. However, perhaps we can use this to our advantage.

Proposal: Let's raise as much money as we can by organizing and implementing nationwide bake sales at our college/university campus. Why??

Tony Blair recently confirmed the fact that Britian will be implementing a gradual withdrawal from Iraq. So, let's get Prince Harry over here and hope the same thing occurs in our country.

If this doesn't work then we can propose that Bush send Barney over there.

If this doesn't work than he should enter the National Guard here in Alabama. (sound familiar??)

Rather tenuous

It's not that much of a coincidence. Prince Harry is not the son of a member of the cabinet, but of the royal family (meaning he's not a 'kid' of the people who make the decisions); the Queen has remained characteristically quiet on the Iraq war, but I'm sure it was in the news that she's not wholeheartedly in favour any way; the royal family has a long tradition of serving in the armed forces; troop withdrawal has been on the cards for months.

And they're reporting on the BBC that he's still going.
