Tonight Campus Progress and HBO presented a big-screen showing of Episode 40 of "The Wire," and we filled a pretty big hall in DC with people who love the show. (RSVPs maxed out even before Dcist could write it up.) Afterwards, series producers and writers David Simon and Ed Burns discussed crumbling urban schools, cynical politicians, etc. Sure, their assessment of the way things are is pretty dark, but they stayed and answered every last question from a crowd that wanted to talk mostly about the issues the show has raised over four seasons. If you're not watching "The Wire," get with it. If you don't have HBO, find or make a friend that does. "The Wire" will make you think, make you laugh, make you mad, and make you want to create something or do something to change this world.
